Banned (again) from Islamic Awakening

After a series of candid engagements with users at Islamic Awakening over the new article that Alix Levine and I just published in Foreign Policy, the IA admins decided to ban me once again from their forum.

Their decision speaks volumes for that community’s ability to deal with a legitimate challenge. Here’s what they wrote this time:

You have been banned for the following reason:Mary had a little lamb, her fleece was white as snow and everywhere that Mary went, the lamb wassure to go – then Mary got banned and the lamb died…aww.Date the ban will be lifted: 19th May 2011, 10:00 AM

I was trying to play nice with them about this article – seeking some common ground that we could discuss –  but after getting banned, I’ve decided to air their dirty laundry – all of it.

So, get ready, this blog’s about to get heavy…

Islamic Awakening Forum reflects the injustice of the so-called “haqq” that its members want to spread as Islam.

They are unable to tolerate opinions that are different to theirs and when they are shown up for being so, they claim freedom of speech as their rightful reason for having such intolerant views.

Dare I say intolerant? Well, how long would any daula Islamiyyah tolerate a Muslim who wants to leave Islam?

I’ll let my learned ikhwaan at IA answer that “trick question”.

Funny how you claim that people from IA have the right to free speech YET you associate them with terror groups and trying to incriminate them for their free speech you claim you tolerate. For you to even consider that you are somewhat a nice “nice guy” yet you support anti-islamic blogs such as jawa report. Who you trying to fool jarret? You hate ISLAM, not extreme-radical-islamist-jihadist muslims.

Grow some balls and be a man and stop beating behind the bush and say exactly what is in your head jarret.

Wow, Abu. You’ve got some anger issues. Dude, just read my article before you start barking up the hate tree. I am very clear that IA participants do not equal terrorists. But they are the pool out of which English-language wannabes tend to emerge. Sammy Khan posted on IA. So did Chesser. You can spew all the venom you want from your little crapshack in Herndon but until you can speak with nuance and clarity and some level of knowledge about my arguments, you won’t be getting any more free airtime on this blog.

    Buh-bye.
