Begolly Chat Transcripts: Post 1

The prosecution in the case of Penn State jihadist Emerson Begolly (aka “Asadullah al-Shishani” aka “Goatly” aka “Goat Lee” aka “Abu Nancy”), has made public one exhibit, which provides verbatim chat transcripts of IM conversations that Begolly, using the screen-name “Abu Nancy” (father of Nancy, referring to his imaginary daughter, Nancy) had with other jihadist internet users.

I will spend the next few days going through those transcript excerpts that I find indicative of Begolly’s overall mentality and knowledge. I will annotate the excerpts with my own reflections along the way – hopefully teasing out some more generalizable insights.

Ok, so in this edition, Begolly, using the moniker, “abunancy,” is chatting it up with a buddy, “Khalid Abd al-Hakim” (someone using the same  user name has busy posting comments in Arabic on well-known video websites since mid-2010.)

What you see here is Begolly trying his hand at the usual “what up dog?” transliterated Arabic greetings that English-language jihadis love to give each other.  But in this case, Begolly learned the response”ahlan beky” (or ahlan biki) from a girl so he used the feminine version instead of “ahlan beka” for a man.  His buddy laughs at him.
